WORDS & MUSIC - Dennis Jernigan - December 21, 2018

As I ponder how to face my current health issues - damaged vocal cord and possible diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease - my mind tends to gravitate toward the worst case scenario. Who am I without my voice at full strength? Am I an effective servant of the King and for the Kingdom? What if the Parkinson’s continues to affect my ability to play the piano? Will I still be useful to the King and to the Kingdom? How does all this affect my identity in Christ? The simple answer? What is the King’s point of view in all this?

Concerning my voice, as long as I can sing I will sing. I’ll just need to find another way to do it with passion even in a weakened state.

Concerning the effects of Parkinson’s, as long as my mind functions I can still minister the wisdom of the King and Kingdom even in my weakened state.

It all boils down to my point of view. What the enemy means for evil, God will use for my good and His glory. He wastes nothing.

I can either allow the weaknesses of my life to define me or I can use them for the kingdom. One brings death while the other brings life.

The Apostle Paul said it like this:

[2Co 12:7-10 NASB] 7 Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me--to keep me from exalting myself! 8 Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. 9 And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

This song was born as I thought about how to view my current situation and circumstances from God’s point of view. My prayer is that you would find it useful in helping you do the same in the midst of your current trials and circumstances.

My Dying Breath

WORDS & MUSIC - Dennis Jernigan - December 21, 2018

Verse

If I found my voice unable to sing

I would simply find another way to praise You

If I found myself with nothing left to bring

May my praise be heard with every breath I breathe

Chorus

I will praise You!

Praise You until there’s absolutely nothing left!

I will praise You!

I’ll praise You ’til there’s nothing left!

I’ll praise You with my dying breath!

Verse

If I found myself unable to move

I would simply find another way to praise You

If I found my eyes the only thing to use

May my praise be heard, Lord, every time I blink

Chorus

I will praise You!

Praise You until there’s absolutely nothing left!

I will praise You!

I’ll praise You ’til there’s nothing left!

I’ll praise You with my dying breath!

Bridge

Blessing and honor and glory I bring!

All that I have I lay before my King!

Blessing and honor and glory I bring!

To my Redeemer!

To the One Who gave up everything for me!

Chorus

I will praise You!

Praise You until there’s absolutely nothing left!

I will praise You!

I’ll praise You ’til there’s nothing left!

I’ll praise You with my dying breath
